Sponsor the illumination of the church to celebrate a birthday, wedding or anniversary or to remember a loved one.

The external lighting for the church has now been repaired.  There is an opportunity for anyone to sponsor the illumination of the church to celebrate a birthday, wedding or anniversary or to remember a loved one. A donation of £10 will light the church for a week.  Please let me have your dedications by 1st of each month. Each month’s dedications will be displayed on the noticeboard and the website and will be circulated to the village email list. You can pay by bank transfer to Sort Code 40 09 02, Account Number 31812556 or in cash to Gill Brounger (Newton Cottage, Green Lane). Thank you.

We have two dedications for June 2017:

  • Remembering all those in the London attack who lost their lives or whose lives were affected – from the Brierley family

  • Remembering all those in the Manchester tragedy who lost their lives or whose lives were affected – from the Maddock family

  • In loving memory of Arthur Staples, born 11th June 1921 – donation from Tessa and Paula

On Sunday, 4th June, at 11.15am in our Village Church, you are warmly invited to a Service for Pentecost, with bells, choir, Taizé and readings in multiple languages.

South Newington Open Garden – May 27th & 28th 2017

A huge thank you to each and every one of you who helped to make the Katharine House Hospice fund raising garden weekend such a success. With everyone’s contributions from cake to beautiful, show standard gardens from encouraging visitors to come, to endless pots of tea and humour, we have raised over £1700.00.

It will mean so much to the hospice.

Many thanks to all.

The South Newington Occasional Singers new singers always  welcome!

We meet on Saturday morning in South Newington village hall from 10.30 – 12.00 with a short coffee break.

The next public performance is likely to be Sat 22nd July at an all day festival taking place in Milcombe in aid of Macmillan.

South Newington Garden Openings – May 27th & 28th

Thank you to all those who have already offered to help at the above event, but if anyone felt like baking a cake or two or sparing some time to help with the teas in the village hall on either day, that would be enormously helpful.

As some of you know, 7 gardens are opening on behalf of Katharine House Hospice on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May.  It is the first garden opening of the year for Katharine House and often this is a well attended event.  Opening times for the gardens are between 2 -5pm and many visitors look forward to a refreshing cup of tea and slice of cake at the end of their garden tour – I think all seven gardens will take at least 90 minutes to go around.

From experience, the teas can raise a significant amount and are a key part of the experience that visitors look forward to.

I am looking for volunteers to make cakes and for both days to serve teas in the Village Hall.

Please could you let me know if:

  1. You could bake a cake;
  2. Help with the teas and if so what dates or times would suit you.

Hopefully I will then be able to put together a rota, which will be agreeable to all.

Many thanks in advance for your help.
