Flower & Produce Show Diary – 2017

12th May 2017

Any day now the colourful Flower and Produce Show schedule will arrive in the village and you can start to plan your entries for the marquee on the Poleaxe on 12th August. If you want to enter for sunflowers or seed potatoes then collect them from the church porch -they are going fast!

We have changed the entries procedure slightly this year. Entries evening is now on the Thursday before the Show; deadline for email entries remains on the Wednesday. So either come to the Village Hall  between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday 10th August; or enter online at [email protected], pay and pick up your entry cards when you deliver your exhibits on the morning of the Show. Online entries must be received by 8.00pm on August 9th.

Please start to collect books, bric a brac and bottles for the stalls or do some baking for the cake stall/tea tent.  We will let you know when we will come around to collect your kind donations.

If you would like to volunteer to run a stall or take money on the gate for 30-60mins on the day, then no experience is necessary!  If you can help, then please let me know.

The marquee will be available for a ‘bring and share’ picnic event in the evening after the show.  All welcome!  If anyone would like to have use of a barbecue for their picnic, then please contact Sue Thomas.

Thank you

19th April 2017

The South Newington Flower Show 2017 is coming…..

The Schedule for the next Flower Show will be launched very soon and we hope you like the new cover design and the colour pages.

Now is the time to start putting aside any bottles you may have for the Bottle Stall, any items for Bric a Brac and sort out some books for the Book Stall.  We shall come to collect whatever you can kindly donate nearer the Show.

Why not look out some new cake recipes that you would like to try and bake them now, then put them by in the freezer so they are all ready for the Cake Stall or the Tea Tent?

Please contact any member of the Committee if you would like to help with the village Show.  Perhaps you could help on a stall for an hour or so, or serve tea or sell raffle tickets?  We also need help with other tasks before and after the day.

This year there will be an Evening ‘Bring n Share’ Event in the marquee on Sat 12th Aug after the Show. Everybody enjoyed last year’s village Jubilee Event so we shall try to recreate the spirit of that, put out some tables and chairs and hope you will all come along and enjoy an evening getting to know fellow villagers.

13th April 2017

The Flower Show Committee met again last week to continue making the arrangements for the 2017 show.  Discussions on how to move forward on an evening event were had.  Likely, this will be a “bring-n-share” event, like the successful street party we held in the village last year, which was well attended and much enjoyed.  We’ll send out more info on this as it develops…

On advertising, we have it in the bag, with the book closing at the end of March.  We have some familiar patrons, but some new ones too.  You’ll see them soon, along with the great new schedule cover design, as soon as we release the 2017 Flower Show Schedules.

New for this year, we will be putting the colouring and handwriting sheets onto the village website.  Hopefully, this will bring the convenience of printing off sheets as and when they’re needed.  If it goes wrong, print some more and have another go…  Of course, the traditional hard copies will also be available too.

Sunflowers and potatoes.  We previously posted on the website that seeds for these competitions are now available.  Get those green fingers working…

And finally, wait until you see the prizes this year.  Some familiar favourites, but some great new ones too.

All very exciting…  Keep you posted.

23rd March 2017

This year we will feature two displays in the church – the Art Group will be exhibiting their work and we also invite everyone in the village to start looking out their blazers, ties, games, photos etc to display on the theme of Childhood and Schooldays.

Dates have been decided, a few new classes added and some novel attractions included. The new schedules will be distributed around Easter time as usual and will also be posted on the village website

20th March 2017

The Flower Show committee met last week as momentum starts to build towards the show this summer.  There are still lots of things to be done, managed and organised, but Paula and her team are keeping things firmly on track.

The team are considering options for an evening event in order to maximise the use of the marquee whilst we have it.  Nothing finalised yet, but hoping to squeeze a little more fun into the evening.

Advertising is a hot topic too.  With the deadline for advertisers coming up, the committee are busy looking for businesses who are interested in placing an ad in the programme.  If you would like to, or know someone who would, drop the committee a note.

A big thank you to everyone who entered our Design A Cover competition.  The committee reviewed, discussed and admired all the cover designs, finally settling on a winner.  It was noted though that all the entries were fabulous and any one of them would have made for an excellent programme cover.

Cups, stalls, entertainment…  We still have much to do and are meeting up again in April.

Keep you posted.
