Better Broadband – Oxfordshire

The Parish Council have received a request for assistance from Councillor Hugo Brown to gather information on where there are gaps in the broadband service we receive in the village. Please see the message below from Steve Newman, Senior Economic Growth Officer at CDC and if you could please let councillor Brown have any details you may wish to share regarding such gaps in service.  Councillor Brown can be contacted at

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Message from Steve Newman (Senior Economic Growth Officer – CDC)

Could I request your assistance please in identifying postcode areas suffering poor broadband coverage in your ward/parishes?

Through the £545,000 investment being committed by the Council to phase 2 of the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire’ programme, at least 95% of premises (residential and business) will be able to have Superfast Broadband by the end of 2017 (with download speeds greater than 24mbps).  As part of the contract, the 35% take up of Superfast Broadband services has been better than expected which also means that the programme has received additional funds to re-invest.

Modelling of the extended coverage is taking place over the summer and your help would be gratefully received as follows:

1)    Help to raise awareness of the roll-out of the Better Broadband for Oxfordshire programme

2)    Identification of any problem areas, including households/businesses that do not have access to Superfast Broadband

Many communities are already programmed to be upgraded during 2016-17 and the interactive map illustrates this:

Information is provided at and we encourage all enquiries to be logged directly via the website or via email to

To the end of June 2016, 2125 enquiries had been received and responded to. This information has been useful to clarify where any ‘real world’ gaps exist to inform where priorities should be placed to connect as many premises as possible.   Enquires logged over the coming weeks will help plan towards the ambition of extending coverage to all premises wherever feasible and as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards, Steve
